Empowering parents, enabling expression, nurturing words
Indiana was first introduced to the world of speech language pathology at the age of 12, when her brother with Down Syndrome began to receive early intervention in their home. She became intrigued with the field and began to pursue the profession after graduating high school. She, thus, obtained her M.A. in Communication Disorders from St. John’s University in New York City and her Certification of Clinical Competence from the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA). Having grown up as bilingual Spanish speaker, Indiana learned how underserved the bilingual community truly is. This led her to obtain her Bilingual Extension Certification from Columbia’s University’s Teacher’s College. In addition, Indiana is PROMPT Level 1, PECS, SOFFI, and Talk Tools trained.
Indiana currently holds professional licenses in Nevada and New York. During her career, Indiana has worked in various pediatric settings, such as public schools, private schools, home care setting, pediatric nursing home, and early intervention. In that time, she has gained experience working with children with Speech and Language Delays/Disorders, bilingual children, children with feeding issues, Autism Spectrum Disorder, hearing impairment, visual impairment, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Traumatic Brain Injury, as well as medically fragile children with gastrostomy tubes, tracheostomy tubes and Passy Muir Speaking Valves.
Indiana believes in using evidenced based practice and is continuously taking courses to improve her practice to better serve her clients. She agrees with studies that have shown that there is more carryover of skills when intervention is provided in the child’s natural environment and caregivers are an active participant in their children’s therapy. She thus provides families with strategies that can be used during their daily routines to help promote communication in the child’s natural environment. She believes therapy should be child led, play based, family focused, fun, and nurturing.
Indiana currently lives in Northwest Vegas with her husband, young daughter, and morkie, Daisy. Indiana is proud to serve the Vegas community.
